Hair Follicle Drug Testing
The newest trend in drug testing is hair follicle drug testing. e7 Health offers hair follicle drug testing in all areas of the United States for individuals and for employers. Same day service is available for hair testing with a 3 -4 business day turnaround for final hair drug testing results.
Many attorneys are ordering hair follicle drug testing for court ordered drug testing, child custody drug testing and divorce drug testing. Individuals often order hair follicle drug testing for personal reasons and also parents are testing teenage children. Many parents ask, can hair collected from a brush be used? The answer is yes, but the test will be reported as having an "anonymous" donor. It is not possible to attribute the sample to any specific person and we cannot determine the time frame of the test, so the test result is not legally defensible. Not all of our testing centers are available for "anonymous" donor hair testing. This type of testing is only performed at our specialty laboratories.
Employers throughout the United States are now implementing hair testing programs due to the benefits this alternative specimen offers. Hair follicle drug testing is becoming increasingly popular.
What are some of the benefits of hair drug testing?
- Hair testing can detect the drugs/metabolites taken up to 90 days.
- Hair testing evaluates long-term patterns of repetitive drug use.
- Hair follicle testing is flexible in drug panels and can also test for EtG alcohol in hair.
- Every hair follicle test is observed and it is difficult for the testing donor to cheat on the test.
Alcohol Testing - EtG
If you are interested in alcohol or EtG testing, e7 Health is the best option for you. If you are considering implementing workplace testing, it is recommended to perform a breath alcohol test (BAT), whether you are looking to be in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), or to be in compliance with your company’s drug free workplace policy.
If you are under court order to appear for alcohol testing, you will want to check your local jurisdiction’s definitions. Typically, there is a direct, one-to-one correlation between a breath alcohol level and blood level. If you are at a 0.02% blood alcohol level, it will be the same as the breath test performed. We can assist your compliance for your court ordered testing.
There are multiple methods that you can test for alcohol, and this includes urine and hair.
Urine EtG and Alcohol Testing
When you consume an alcoholic beverage, the principal type of alcohol is ethanol, commonly called ethyl alcohol or EtG. It is produced by the fermentation by yeasts of sugars. To detect recent ingestion of alcohol, you may use urine, hair, and blood. EtG is a metabolite of ethyl alcohol, and can be detected for longer periods of time after ingestion.
If you choose a urine test, you are detecting the ingestion of EtG for a previous immediate time frame, up to 80 hours. This type of testing is used to monitor alcohol abstinence for court ordered cases whether it is probation, child custody, drug court, DWI cases and other situations.
Urine and EtG testing is not appropriate for workplace drug testing as it does not prove or detect current impairment or consumption of alcohol during business hours.
Breath alcohol testing is the best option for workplaces that wish to determine impairment or current use of alcohol during working hours.
Hair Testing - EtG Alcohol
Hair has emerged as an important sample material to determine misuse of all substances. It has been proven that all foreign substances have become imbedded and remain in the hair for a significant timeframe. This type of testing is possible due to specific EtG markers present in the sample. It is, however, used as a measure of chronic excessive alcohol consumption as supported by the Society of Hair Testing.
Hair alcohol tests measure average alcohol consumption over a period of roughly three months, indicates the level of alcohol use during that time period, and can provide a behavioral indication of excessive use. This test does not determine current intoxication levels.
